One academic year of flute lessons
As a young musician, I was the grateful recipient of several scholarships that paid for flute lessons. These scholarships helped me to save for a new instrument and lifted some of the financial burden from my family. Now, I feel it is time to repay the favor. This year, in conjunction with my partner Leander Star, I am offering one academic year of lessons to one student. The rules are as follows:
Flute and French horn students in 6th through 12th grade are eligible to apply. Applications may be downloaded here and must be postmarked by October 15th, 2011.
The scholarship is only available for study with Elise Blatchford or Leander Star. It is not transferable to other teachers.
Applicants will be notified of their audition time on or before October 20th. All auditions must take place before October 31st. The auditions will be at the teaching studio in Johns Landing in Portland. The winners will be notified by November 1st.
Scholarship lessons will commence immediately in November and continue through the end of the school year. The lesson will be one hour per week and may take place on any weekday. The lesson schedule will follow the students' school vacation calendar. Missed lessons will not be made up.
The student must be responsible for being on time and for being prepared for lessons. The scholarship may be dropped at any time due to habitual absence, lack of preparation, or lack of commitment to the instrument's demands.
