With Chen-I Lee, piano
This is one of Franck's most famous pieces that were not written for organ. Originally for violin and piano, this sonata has been adapted successfully for many instruments - probably most notable is Jacqueline DuPre's interpretation on the cello.
Jacob wrote this piece for me when we were both students at the Oberlin Conservatory. All of the electronic sounds are actually flute sounds that I recorded: there are some extended techniques like key clicking, "tongue flaps," and flutter tonguing. Then Jacob ran them all through various computer programs. You can also hear me hum harmony while playing in certain sections. Jacob wrote one other piece for me and a harpist -- you can learn more about him
here.
A staple of the flute repertoire, this is the first of four secular dances that Bach wrote for flute alone.
