Whether you're just starting to learn the flute, or looking for someone to augment music at school, I can help you. Music students who study privately acquire skills in a shorter period of time and experience less frustration overall. That means a lot of things: a deeper understanding of music, an easier relationship with the instrument -- and more fun.
I can bring energy and focus to your lessons. Hard work should be praised, and enthusiasm for the music is important in fostering a disciplined work ethic. Lessons focus on fundamentals:
Tone Development and intonation through embouchre work, long tones, and ear training.
Technique through scales, arpeggios, proper hand position, and training light, supple fingers.
Musicality, interpretation, and style through the study of repertoire from the baroque, classical, and romantic periods in addition to the twentieth century.
Development of creativity and sense of freedom via improvisation.
For five years, I taught flute and woodwind chamber music at Cazadero Performing Arts Camp in northern California. Through the seven-week camp, I saw approximately sixty flutists every summer ranging from ages nine to sixteen. In the Chicago area, I have taught at the Merit School of Music, the Music Institute of Chicago, St. Athanasius School in Evanston, and Highland Park High School in Highland Park. I have maintained private studios in every city I have lived -- see the testimonials of former students.
Primarily, I teach out of my home in Evanston, Illinois and through Evanston Winds and Brass. Lessons are $45 per hour. 30 minute lessons are $30. Contact me for more information.
